Ecological partners with Lime Green …

Ecological Building Systems has entered a strategic partnership with Lime Green Products to supply the Irish market with breathable, high-performance lime mortar, plaster and render.

Lime Green was founded in 2002 and is now one of the largest producers of quality lime products in the UK, focusing its research and development in key areas such as product chemistry and environmental assessment. The partnership complements Ecological’s own mission to achieve “Better Building” through the use of more natural materials and will see Ecological provide Lime Green products throughout Ireland, with distribution also available through its UK office.

There are over 300,000 buildings with solid masonry walls in Ireland and close to eight million in the UK, many of which are brick or stone. To avoid damp and mould in buildings such as these, it is paramount to maintain a healthy balance of moisture and humidity in the walls. This can be achieved by using lime-based products that over millennia have demonstrated their ability to regulate humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture.

Niall Crosson, Group Technical Manager with Ecological comments: “The thermal refurbishment of hard-to-treat solid masonry walls in Ireland and the UK presents a major challenge to industry. As part of our nZEB strategy in Ireland, an ambitious target of retrofitting 500,000 homes to a B2 energy rating is to be welcomed. However, care must be taken to ensure thermal solutions in these buildings are compatible with existing walls and do not lead to unintended negative consequences. The tried and tested range of Lime Green mortars and plasters present the perfect breathable solution for brick and stone walls which may be used exclusively, or in conjunction with our range of breathable insulations, paints and finishes”
