Despite the many challenges facing construction, especially in relation to decarbonisation, net zero delivery and skills shortages, Architecture + Building Expo demonstrated beyond any shadow of a doubt that the AEC sector is rising to the challenge.
The speakers and topics discussed during the RIAI Conference demonstrated an awareness of the scale of the challenges, but also that the industry has the means to address them.
On the product and building systems front, exhibitors presented a vast array of innovations and technological advancements, many of which were acknowledged by the Architect’s Choice Awards.
The CPD presentations further endorsed this point, giving visitors the opportunity to gain additional insights into what is now coming on stream, as well as future developments.
Meanwhile, the SEAI Breakfast Briefing built on last year’s session by providing more detail on routes to availing of SEAI grants for energy upgrades; providing working examples of how architects can work in tandem with One-Stop-Shops delivering these; and by giving update on the progress being made by the RIAI + One-Stop-Shop Working Group.
Architecture + Building Expo also showcased the Building Change initiative, an ambitious project, supported by funding from the Higher Education Authority Human Capital Initiative, which is building on the culture of excellence already evident in Irish architecture education. It is a unique collaboration between all the Irish universities delivering professional accredited courses in architecture – TU Dublin, UCD, MTU and UCC, UL, ATU, SETU), with TU Dublin as lead partner.
The progress they have made was evident for all to see, while visitors and exhibitors alike took full advantage of the opportunity to introduce themselves to, and engage with, tomorrow’s architects.
Architecture + Building Expo demonstrated that the future of AEC is safe, secure and in good hands, and that the event formula is the ideal showcase to demonstrate that. Roll on 2025.
